About DSFG
DSFG e.V. is a Germany-based non-profit, non-governmental organization supporting students, researchers, and academics and fostering scientific and academic cooperation between Germany, Syria, and international partners.
To further develop and professionally manage our digital infrastructure, we are looking for an experienced WordPress Developer & Website Content Manager on a paid freelance basis.
The assignment combines WordPress administration and development with content management, UX/UI, website performance, and the continuous improvement of our multilingual digital presence.
Scope of Work
Responsibilities may include:
- creating, editing, and publishing pages and content in WordPress;
- managing text, images, videos, documents, and other website media;
- maintaining and improving existing website layouts and templates;
- working with Elementor and customizing WordPress themes and components;
- ensuring consistent implementation of DSFG branding and communication standards;
- managing menus, navigation structures, forms, widgets, and website functionality;
- implementing and improving responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices;
- applying technical and on-page SEO best practices;
- improving website speed, performance, usability, and accessibility;
- performing or coordinating appropriate WordPress, theme, and plugin updates;
- maintaining appropriate website backup and security mechanisms;
- identifying and resolving technical errors and display issues;
- ensuring compatibility between WordPress versions, themes, and plugins;
- developing advanced forms, conditional logic, and automated workflows where required;
- supporting API, webhook, and third-party integrations;
- coordinating website updates with relevant project, communication, and content teams.
Your Profile
Required Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
- demonstrated practical experience working with WordPress CMS;
- strong knowledge of Elementor or comparable page-builder systems;
- good knowledge of HTML and CSS, with basic JavaScript skills;
- experience managing website content and digital media;
- a solid understanding of responsive web design;
- basic knowledge of technical and on-page SEO;
- experience with WordPress themes, plugins, and configuration;
- an understanding of website performance and basic web-security principles;
- strong attention to quality, detail, visual consistency, and user experience;
- the ability to work independently, systematically, and reliably;
- the ability to document technical changes appropriately;
- good professional communication skills in Arabic and English.
Arabic and English are operationally relevant because DSFG maintains multilingual digital content and communicates with both international and Arabic-speaking audiences.
German language skills are an advantage but are not mandatory.
Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable
Experience with one or more of the following would be an advantage:
- PHP and custom WordPress development;
- Git and GitHub;
- Linux server environments;
- Docker;
- automation platforms such as n8n or comparable solutions;
- API integrations and webhooks;
- complex forms, conditional logic, and multi-step workflows;
- website security and backup solutions;
- Core Web Vitals and website performance optimization;
- UX/UI best practices;
- Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO);
- basic graphic design or image editing.
A specific university degree is not mandatory. Demonstrable professional competence, the quality of previous work, and the ability to deliver the agreed services independently and reliably are more important.

Compensation
This is a paid freelance assignment.
The professional fee will be transparently agreed before the assignment begins, taking into account the defined scope of services, anticipated workload, and relevant professional experience.
Depending on the assignment, compensation may be agreed on an hourly, monthly-retainer, or project basis.
Independent Freelance Status
The collaboration is intended to constitute a genuine independent freelance service relationship and not an employment relationship.
The freelancer generally determines their own place of work, working hours, and method of carrying out the services. Agreed deliverables, quality standards, data-protection and security requirements, deadlines, and necessary coordination points remain binding.
The selected contractor must be legally able to provide independent professional services and issue appropriate invoices in accordance with the laws applicable to them.
The contractual arrangements and the way the collaboration is carried out in practice must remain consistent with independent freelance status.
