Information about the university

TUM was one of the first universities in Germany to be awarded the title of University of Excellence. Furthermore, it regularly ranks among the top universities in Europe in international rankings. It comprises fifteen faculties with a focus on engineering, natural and life sciences, business administration, and social sciences.
In keeping with its international focus, the university regularly offers new English-language master’s programs and has 612 professors.

Information about the university

The university has research funding totaling €378.6 million. By 2017, seventeen Nobel laureates were among the university’s professors and graduates. According to university statistics, the student population in the 2020/2021 winter semester was 45,356, of which 16,546 were women (36%) and 15,548 were international students (34% of the total student population).

Scholarships

The Technical University of Munich offers scholarships for international students who cannot afford to study. These scholarships are funded by the Bavarian state government and have their own budget allocation.
The value of this scholarship is generally between €500 and €1,500 per semester. It generally includes a number of requirements, including proof of low parental income, a good academic record, and other criteria.

International Welcome Center for Researchers

The Graduate Office and Global Affairs Center offers international postdoc researchers, visiting professors, and hosts at TUM support with all formal procedures related to relocating to Munich and Garching. It also facilitates integration into academic life.

The TUM Accommodation Service supports international researchers in their search for suitable accommodation in Munich and Garching.
In addition, consulting services for family matters are available through the Center for Seniors, Families, and Children.

Office for Technology Transfer

The Technology Transfer Office, the Research and Inventions Office, and the Technology Transfer Department of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) support the social engagement of industry with university scientists. New ideas and inventions developed at the university form the core of social progress and technological change. These inventions and innovations are commercialized through partners with the goal of creating a new product or service or further developing an existing product or process. All of this takes place within the framework of the patent policy of the Technical University of Munich. The TUM Patent and Licensing Office markets new technologies in numerous industries and negotiates contracts (confidentiality agreements, substitutions, licensing and acquisition agreements, etc.) on behalf of TUM.
