Promoting young talent

The TUM Talent Factory supports all young TUM researchers and postdoctoral researchers who wish to conduct a research project at the Technical University of Munich by organizing the following events and programs:

Support for international researchers

The Technical University of Munich awards scholarships to international students who cannot afford their studies. These scholarships are funded by the Bavarian state government and have a budget. The scholarship amounts range from €500 to €1,500 per semester. They are generally subject to certain conditions, including proof of low parental income and good academic performance. Further information and the scholarship conditions can be found here.

Diversity and equal opportunities at the Technical University of Munich

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is committed to supporting and encouraging students with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses to participate in academic life. The Office for Students with Disabilities and Chronically Illnesses provides support and advice in all relevant areas before and during their studies, and for all types of disabilities, whether mental or chronic physical illnesses, partial functional impairments, or visual, hearing, or mobility impairments. TUM promotes equal opportunities and gender equality and offers advice and support in this regard through the staff of the Office for the Advancement of Women.

Welcome Center for International Researchers

The Alumni and Global Affairs Office supports international postdocs, visiting professors, and TUM hosts with all the formalities surrounding their move to Munich and offers assistance for a smooth integration into academic life. The TUM Accommodation Service also assists international researchers in finding suitable accommodation in Munich. The Center for Seniors, Families, and Children also offers family counseling.

Technology Transfer Office

The Technology Transfer Office, the Research and Inventions Office, and the Technology Transfer Department at TUM support the corporate citizenship efforts of the business community together with university scientists. New ideas and inventions developed at the university form the core of social progress and technological change. These inventions and innovations are marketed through targeted partners to create a new product or service, or to further develop an existing product or process. All of this takes place within the framework of TUM’s patent policy. The TUM Patent and Licensing Office markets new technologies across industries. It negotiates contracts (confidentiality agreements, substitutions, licensing and acquisition agreements, etc.) on behalf of TUM. The TUM Patent and Licensing Office welcomes discussions with potential interested parties.

Research areas in the Integrated Research Centers of TUM

Scientists at the Technical University of Munich are exploring new research fields in Integrative Research Centers (IRCs). Each center focuses on a specific research topic and combines this with excellent teaching:

Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS)

The Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS) aims to understand and shape the diverse interactions between science, technology, and society and to address the challenges of technological developments through interdisciplinary research. This is achieved by incorporating the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and engineering into discussion and research and by initiating collaboration between these disciplines.

Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI)

The digital information revolution is transforming societies, economies, and even science and its paths to knowledge. Researchers at the Munich Institute for Data Science are working to anticipate, support, and shape this transformation. The institute is the central interface of the Technical University of Munich and an innovation center for solving and answering new questions in the fields of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Munich School of Engineering (MSE)

The Munich School of Engineering investigates the interaction between engineering and natural sciences and conducts research into technologies in the fields of environment, climate, energy, raw materials, mobility, and infrastructure. The MSE’s interdisciplinary research focus is on energy and sustainability, with a focus on renewable energies, electromobility, power generation, energy storage, power plant technology, and energy efficiency in buildings.
