Environmental Specialist Team (DSFG – EST)

is a new-born specialized team within DSFG, dedicated to environmental, water, and sustainability topics. The team will officially launch their work in January 2026.

Our Vision

To contribute to a sustainable environmental future for Syria by strengthening scientific cooperation, advancing environmental research, and enabling knowledge exchange between Syrian, German, and international institutions.

We aim to empower universities, researchers, and young professionals to actively participate in environmental protection, water security, and climate-related solutions.

Our Goals

Strengthen academic and scientific cooperation in environmental fields.

Initiate and develop funded environmental projects addressing urgent local needs.

Promote environmental research, with a focus on water and natural resources.

Build sustainable environmental specialist networks between Syrian, German, and international partners.

The team brings together environmental experts, engineers, and academics to:

Project Overview

Review Research Study: Bibliometric-Scientometric Review of Syria’s Water Sector Research During the Revolution Period 2011-2025

Water management in Syria is critical for food security, economic development, and public health, yet it faces increasing pressures from climate change, recurrent droughts, population growth, and expanding agricultural and industrial demands. Since 2011, these challenges have intensified due to war-related destruction of water infrastructure, large-scale displacement, the collapse of management systems, and lack of data. In this context, bibliometric and scientometric analyses provide a systematic approach to map the knowledge landscape of Syrian water research. By examining publications from 2011 to 2025, this study identifies research trends, collaboration networks among institutions and authors, key thematic areas, and emerging research gaps, offering a potential source of knowledge for researchers, governments, and international agencies as they strive to restore the water sector’s resilience in a land that remains as thirsty for peace as it is for water.
