The Technical University of Dresden is one of the largest technical universities in Germany and one of the leading and most dynamic universities in the country.
As a university with a full range of disciplines, it comprises 17 faculties in five schools and offers a diverse range of courses in 124 disciplines. Furthermore, it covers a broad field of research.

The Technical University of Dresden has been a “University of Excellence” since 2012 and has been receiving permanent funding as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments since November 1, 2019.

Promoting young talent

The Graduate Academy is the central service facility for young researchers. As a competent contact for all questions relating to the doctoral phase and beyond, its goal is to create optimal research and working conditions at a university level for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers.
In accordance with internationally recognized quality standards, the Technical University of Dresden aims to prepare young researchers as best as possible for future leadership positions in science, business and society.

Support for foreign researchers

On January 1, 2021, the new project “Successful digitally integrated studies at TU Dresden” was launched to support international students.
The project is funded as part of the “Model Projects for Improving the Welcoming Culture” program. The goal of the project is to support international students through appropriate measures, thus facilitating their access to Dresden University of Technology, preventing dropouts, and improving their academic performance.
This pilot project was initially implemented at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from 2021 to 2023 and will later be transferred to other faculties of the Dresden University of Technology.
The International Office is responsible for all matters relating to the study organization of international students, including re-registration, leave of absence, dropping out of university, transferring to another university, as well as questions regarding student ID cards and tuition fees.
In addition, you can obtain information about examinations and their results from the Faculty Examination Office.
The Career Service Office offers continuing education programs tailored to the needs of international students and provides individual advice for an optimal professional experience in Germany.

Diversity

University culture is a topic that concerns the entire university. University members strive to achieve strategic cultural goals while simultaneously fostering the diverse perspectives that exist within the university. These perspectives arise from differences in professional experience, gender identity, age group, social background, family responsibilities, or living with a disability or chronic illness, and enrich research, teaching, and campus life.

Welcome Center

The team at the TU Dresden Welcome Center supports international researchers and their families in planning and carrying out their research stays of three months or more.
As a service facility, the Welcome Center offers advice on all non-academic and practical questions to make your stay in Dresden as pleasant and easy as possible – whether for a single semester or a permanent position at the university.
In addition, a wide range of administrative and social services can be offered through an extensive network of internal and external partners.

Supporting students in starting their own business

Many students and graduates consider starting their own business, seeing it as an attractive career opportunity. However, getting started isn’t easy, as many questions arise: Is my idea suitable as a basis for my own company? How can I finance my startup? Can I protect my idea? How do I establish a company? The Technical University of Dresden, the state capital of Dresden, and the state of Saxony offer comprehensive consulting services to answer all of these questions.
For over 15 years, the Service Center Dresden | exists has been supporting students, graduates and employees of colleges and universities.
Dresden is in the process of founding a startup. In lectures and conferences, students receive expert advice on developing a business model and support with all questions related to starting a business.
For example, the EXIST – Founders’ Grant program, the EXIST – Research Transfer research exchange program, and the GO Bio funding program for biotechnology start-ups support the financing of entrepreneurial ideas. As long-term partners of students and entrepreneurs, these programs support them in their implementation and execution.
