The University of Konstanz offers over 100 degree programs and has approximately 11,600 students. More than 12% of these are international students from over 90 countries worldwide, and more than half of the students are female.
The University of Konstanz maintains over 250 collaborative projects with universities worldwide. It promotes academic collaboration and the acquisition of knowledge through the close integration of research and teaching. The university considers interdisciplinary collaboration an essential prerequisite for innovative teaching.
The University of Konstanz has been recognized as one of eleven universities of excellence in Germany within the framework of the Universities of Excellence program. With its overall concept “University of Konstanz – Shaping Together” and two new Clusters of Excellence, “The Center for Advanced Study of Collective Behavior” and “The Politics of Inequality: Perceptions, Participation, and Policies,” it has achieved success in all three funding lines of the Excellence Initiative since 2007.
As part of its Excellence Strategy, the University of Konstanz strives to improve conditions for young researchers. Therefore, the Young Researchers Fund (YSF) provides limited funding for postdoctoral researchers. The YSF accepts applications from experienced young researchers for the “Start-up Funding and Co-Financing of Research Projects” funding line twice a year, by June 15 and/or October 15.
The University of Konstanz has five interdisciplinary research focuses, developed through research networks. The United Nations has set 17 goals for sustainable development in its Vision 2030. The University of Konstanz contributes to these global efforts through its researchers, teaching activities, and knowledge transfer to society. It thus provides impetus for sustainable action and supports crisis management and the development of sustainable technologies. Around 17 research projects with a focus on sustainability from various disciplines are presented in the journal (unicorn The articles in the journal “Research on Sustainability” (No. 72, “With Knowledge Transfer to a Sustainable Future”) are presented in German. The articles illustrate how research contributes to sustainability and the diverse scientific methods used in this process.
The International Student Welcome Center offers support in all non-academic areas and covers all aspects of life for students, scholars, researchers, and visiting scholars who have moved to a new location. These services cover the following phases: pre-arrival, upon arrival, during the stay, and after graduation.
