Syrian Academic Libraries Initiative

Short Term Objectives

  • Support Library Collections:
    Providing up-to-date textbooks and scientific references from different disciplines to support Syrian universities libraries collection and scientific research. Printed materials will be provided  through donations from publishers worldwide, universities and extra-university institutions.
  • Support Electronic Library Infrastructure:
    Creating a platform to provide students and academic staff from participating universities with access to publications from world-wide (scientific and non-scientific) publishers. Thereby bridging the knowledge gap and fostering academic excellence.
  • Modernizing Libraries Office Equipments:
    Upgrading Office Equipment and IT Infrastructure. This includes desktops, computers, printers and related consumables and accessories. This modernization will be primarily dedicated to postgraduate students and scientific staff and with reasonable access for all students.

Long Term Goals

  • Modernizing and Rehabilitating Academic Libraries:
    Renovate and repair universities libraries through partnerships with local associations and volunteering teams. Including but not limited to lightning and painting.
  • Further Library Support:
    Supporting the universities libraries to effectively integrate and utilize the donated publications, including:
    – Assistance with cataloging and shelving of publications.
    – Promotion of the donated resources to students and faculty.
  • Establishing and Supporting the DSFG Library:
    Support the establishment of the DSFG library in Syria and furnishing it with the needed library furniture and equipment.
  • Establishing the Syrian Academic Repository:
    A single platform to include all the graduation projects and scientific dissertations of students from Syrian universities
