We at the German-Syrian Research Foundation are looking to expand our Libraries Team (SALI) as we prepare to take our work to the next level. For this purpose, we are looking for an:

SALI Local Coordinator ,
Volunteering (non-paid), 4-6 Hours weekly

Core Requirements:

A Local Coordinator at the German-Syrian Research Foundation is expected to have the following Capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Library Science, Communication, or a related field.
  • Strong motivation and passion for the development and advancement of universities in Syria.
  • Physically able to regularly visit and assess libraries at multiple universities (main 4 public universities in Syria).
  • Proactive and self-driven with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Fluency in Arabic (written and spoken), with proficiency in English being a plus.

 

Skills Requirements:
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective coordination with universities, field teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to document observations and assessments in a meticulous and organized manner.
  • Critical thinking skills to identify and assess the needs of libraries effectively.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to build relationships with university representatives and field teams.
  • Problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt to challenges on the ground.
  • Ability to coordinate logistics for field visits and ensure smooth operations during assessments.

 

Responsibilities:

As a Local Coordinator at the German-Syrian Research Foundation you will be in charge of the followings:

  • Communicate and coordinate with universities in Syria, particularly the four main public universities, to observe and assess the needs of their libraries.
  • Regularly visit and oversee the physical condition and operational needs of libraries, ensuring that assessments are thorough and well-documented.
  • Work closely with university staff to identify areas for improvement and suggest solutions based on observations.
  • Document detailed reports of library conditions, including infrastructure, resources, and any required interventions.
  • Act as a liaison between the SALI team and university representatives, ensuring alignment between both parties.
  • Organize and coordinate field trips to universities for needs assessments and follow-up visits.
  • Provide feedback to the SALI team regarding university library conditions and progress on agreed-upon initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve library services and resources in universities.
  • Attend regular team meetings to discuss progress, report on observations, and recommend strategies for improving library systems.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and resourcefulness, especially in challenging or remote environments.
